Freudstein cast a dark and sinister shadow over electronic music. Bizarre magazine once described them as having "found a new sound, one that combines the atmosphere of classic horror soundtracks with modern electronic music". But this is no B-movie project. This Brighton duo mean serious business.
Currently signed to Wasp-Factory Recordings, band members Andrew Bridge and David Else draw inspiration from music as diverse as Goblin, Depeche Mode, Slayer, Isao Tomita, Boards Of Canada and other modern electronic artists. However, the instrumentation is not just limited to electronic sources, both members play guitar and sing in a range of styles with lyrics of emotional and political depth.
And what to make of the maverick band live? Freudstein hijack the rules of live electronica, stepping out from behind their on-stage machines to present an audience with a radically different set at every gig - regularly swapping vocal duties and instruments on stage. They’ve also been known to perform with a live bassist and their very own erotic dancers, ironically called, The Freudettes.
Previous gigs have included playing Belgium's Eurorock festival, the UK's Black Celebration festival at the LA2, London's Slimelight/Electrowerkz, the Camden Underworld, London's The Garage, the Brighton Fringe festival 2005, Brighton Live 2005, and the Rhythms Of The World festival.
Since releasing their debut album ‘Mondo Freudo’, the band have been lost in the depths of their laboratory completing an alchemy of songs for their follow-up, entitled 'Mass Market Misery'. The band's new album is a harder, darker, more personal affair that will surely cement their reputation as one of the most exciting and talented bands around today.
